Linda believes the role of county government is simple:

  • Keeping you and your family safe

  • Using your tax dollars wisely

  • Creating opportunities for all

Since being elected, Linda has fulfilled these promises by leading and supporting efforts that:

  • Invested $10.8 million of the County's $18.9 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds in communities throughout Story County for libraries, recreation facilities, childcare and infrastructure projects.

  • Planned and opened the Warming Place this past winter, to provide shelter in inclement weather for un-housed individuals and residents without adequate heat.

  • Helped fund local internet service providers to expand affordable and accessible broadband to 90% of Story County.

  • Encourage and enable landowners to promote water quality efforts, arranged for our local Watershed Management Authorities to meet and plan jointly.

  • Provided county-wide disaster recovery from the Deracho and the 2024 tornado and established a permanent debris site for use by county residents.

  • Ensure our public safety communications systems work effectively throughout the County.

  • Plan for safer streets and intersections in areas experiencing new residential development.

  • Advocate for local governments to have a voice in pipeline safety.

Linda will continue to work on these efforts and to:
  • Maintain a strong Emergency Response and Disaster Recovery system

  • Invest in Infrastructure and Outdoor Recreation

  • Increase affordable Housing and Childcare

  • Implement a Climate Action Plan for Story County

Linda's Story

Linda has lived in Story County all her life. She grew up on an 80-acre farm in Franklin Township, which she still owns and is restoring to prairie. Linda graduated from Gilbert High School and Iowa State University. Her first career was as Director of the Second Judicial District Department of Correctional Services, which supervises and provides rehabilitation programs for adult offenders in 22 counties in north-central Iowa.

Linda has a lifetime of service to her community. She has volunteered with many agencies, including Open Life, YSS and ACCESS (volunteer and Board member), and has served as Board President of Gilbert/Franklin Fire & Rescue, President of the Ames and Story County League of Women Voters, and Executive Committee member of the League of Women Voters of Iowa.

Linda's two children, their spouses and five of her grandchildren live on the family farm near Gilbert; another grandchild and his wife live in Ames. If re-elected, she will continue to strive to keep Story County a great place in which to live, work and enjoy life, for her family and yours.
